COVID-19 Transitional Isolation Ward delivered in Cabo Delgado

The Total-led Mozambique LNG Project proceeded, on October 21, with the delivery of the Transitional Isolation Ward of COVID-19 in Pemba.

The event coincided with the inauguration ceremony of the same facilities led by Secretary of State Armindo Ngunga, in the presence of TotalEnergies representative, the Pemba District Government representative, the Provincial Director of Health Services, the Director of the Provincial Hospital of Pemba, as well as implementing partners in the health sector.

The inauguration of the Transitional Isolation Ward for COVID-19 patients takes place after the official delivery to Cabo Delgado Provincial Authorities, last July, of ventilators and a PCR laboratory, equipped with office supplies and complete laboratory equipment, including reagents and consumables for COVID-19 tests.

Speaking moments after the inauguration ceremony, Armindo Ngunga said: "This fully rehabilitated and equipped ward, with 4 ventilators sponsored by Total, 22 beds capacity, centralized oxygen and compressed air feeding system and state-of-the-art equipment, aims to strengthen the responsiveness of health authorities in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.”

Furthermore, Ngunga commended and acknowledged the partners’ efforts, expressing his satisfaction with the high quality of the works undertaken, as well as the brilliant support provided by TotalEnergies on the fight against COVID-19 within Cabo Delgado Province.

In addition to the rehabilitation of the Transitional Isolation Ward for COVID-19 patients and the delivery of ventilators and a PCR laboratory, the company has already provided a multiform support to the Government including the provision, to the National Health Institute, INS and the Health Directorate of Cabo Delgado, of 25,000 surgical and Nk95 masks for each institution, from the initial batch of 50,000 masks planned for the health authorities.

The support also included a large number of laboratory and testing equipment for Pemba Lab, coupled with various other individual protection materials, including 15 infrared thermometers and 30 spray pumps of 10 liters each.

All these initiatives are part of TotalEnergies' corporate social responsibility activities aiming to supporting the national response against COVID-19 in Mozambique.
