Celebrating International Day of Education

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.

TotalEnergies recognizes that Education is a human right, and the most important vehicle for sustainable socio-economic development. This is translated into the company’s global citizenship program implemented through the TotalEnergies Foundation which is one of the pillars to promote a positive social impact through youth inclusion and education.

What we have done so far in Mozambique?

The project has a number of education initiatives, including:

  • A partnership with the Government of France which will award, from 2021, 40 scholarships to Mozambican students seeking higher education in France
  • A partnership with CODE to implement the BETTER Project aiming at improving the quality of reading and teaching-learning:
    • Provided 60,000 books in local languages;
    • Trained 37 teachers from Palma Secondary School
    • Delivered a website for the Institute of Open and Distance Education (IEDA)
  • Within partnership with CESC, developed capacity of school managers, teachers and school councils in the new resettlement village of Quitunda and surrounding villages, in Palma District
  • Through our CATALISA project, we are promoting technical and vocational education for young people in Palma District - 820 young people reached

In the past year, we have witnessed the challenge on the education system everywhere in the world.  In Mozambique millions of children were forced out school in order to protect them from the harmful effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

On this third International Education Day, we wish to celebrate the commitment and resilience of educators, government and partners for all the efforts made to keep students learning safely as they expand their human potential.
